Dorothy C. Buck's own spiritual quest led her from many years as a Classical Ballet performer and teacher to Carmelite spirituality. After writing The Dance of Life published in 1987 by Paragon House in NYC her interest in spirituality and psychology led to a Ph.D. in Religion and Literature from Boston University and an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling from Emmanuel College with further training at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy. She has a private practice as a licensed mental health practitioner and Pastoral Counselor in Davis Square, Somerville, MA. Her interest in the three Abrahamic traditions, Islam, Christianity and Judaism has led her to publish many articles and books on Inter-faith topics and to establish networks of prayer groups, such as the modern revival of the Badaliya. Along with chapters in two other books, her articles have appeared in Dance Magazine, Living Prayer, SUFI: A Journal of Sufism, The Quest and in The National Catholic Reporter. She has two books on the legacy of Louis Massignon, Dialogues with Saints and Mystics: in the Spirit of Louis Massignon published by KNP Publications in 2002 and Louis Massignon, a pioneer of interfaith dialogue: the Badaliya prayer movement (1947-1962), published by Blue Dome Press in 2016.
Dr. Buck has an active interest in supporting education for Palestinian Arab Christian and Muslim children in the Holy Land and facilitates the Partner Parish Committee for St. Pauls Parish in Cambridge, MA with Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Beit Sahour, Palestine. She is Secretary of the Board of the Friends of al-Rowwad, USA supporting the al-Rowwad Children's Theater and Cultural Center in the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, Palestine. She included visits to the Aida Camp and al-Rowwad on two pilgrimages to the Holy Land in 2011 and 2013.
